DNA testing is the only 100% way to tell the gender of a parrot unless its a parakeet.

You have to take it to an avian/exotic vet and get blood tests done. You can tell on some parrots though without that. Like Ectlectus parrots you can tell by their colors. In umbrealla Cockatoos the females usually have lighter colored eyes than a male. In Amazons the female is generally smaller than a male.

It depends on the species. With sexually dimorphic birds, like eclectus, you can tell by feather color. With birds where both genders look identical (like greys or caiques), a DNA blood test is the best and most reliable.

I've got three caiques and they're all been DNA-sexed females.

    Hi!
You can tell the sex of a parrot depending on its a age. After about 6 months to nose will turn bluish purplish for a boy, and a pinkish color for a girl. Hope I helped!

Surgical sexing is the best on older parrots, because you can see if they are fit enough to breed. It makes sure that all the parts are in working order.

DNA sexing is great for young birds.

Depending on the species of parrot you have, most you can usually tell what sex they are. I've been around so many i could tell you what to look for in both.

Email me and tell me the species you have and i tell you what to look for.

It depends on the type of parrot. Some are sexually dimorphic meaning you can visually tell males from females, others aren't. To tell the ones that look the same the best way to tell is a DNA test. This can be done using blood or feathers you pluck from the bird (usually on its chest). You can either send for a kit online and do it yourself (I do it's very easy) or you can bring it to a vet and have them do it, or they can surgically sex the bird at a vet's.
